The Pearl SocietyAlfillé is known for her rare and exotic pearl collections, and in 1990 founded The Pearl Society, which meets bimonthly at the gallery and publishes a bulletin and a blog http://pearlsociety.typepad.com/. She founded this association to inform, enlighten and help everyone enjoy the intriguing mysteries of this treasured gem. Alfillé is a passionate and dedicated pearl collector who wants to share her ardor with others who desire these magnificent orbs. Her main objective is to raise the public's consciousness concerning pearls and to attempt the preservation of the delicate habitats bi-valves require to produce them. Offering lectures, book signings, demonstrations, and an open atmosphere of questions and answers, the Pearl Society is an exciting and stimulating forum, examining where pearls are grown, what to look for when buying pearls, current and past jewelry trends, the importance of pearls throughout history, and interesting legends and lore. A charming newsletter announces the bi-monthly meetings with brief articles on the world of pearls both educational and interesting (often humorous, as in the March 1999 lecture “Loose Pearls for Loose Women”) Alfillé, herself a notable poet, always leaves room for her members to submit original prose or poetry related to pearls, their culture, harvests, folklore or pearl inspired emotions for possible inclusion in an upcoming newsletter. A nominal yearly fee of $25.00 opens the doors of membership to all pearl lovers. Please make your check payable to Eve Alfillé - The Pearl Society, and mail it to The Eve Alfillé Gallery & Studio, 623 Grove Street, Evanston, IL 60201. Please be sure to include your contact information and mailing address, as well as any pearl related topics you would be interested in. |
