A pair of dragonflies, an egret, serene on a peaceful pond, two lions at a sacred tree...these and other majestic creatures are the subject of Eve's "Les Animaliers" series.
In the French tradition, the term, "Les Animaliers" refers to modern painters of familiar animals. Eve's interest is in ancient intaglios, seals painstakingly carved as personal adornment, with fauna real and mythical − an attempt to possess, to subjugate, but also to pay homage to the eternal grace and elegance of these creatures.
"In my own evocation of this ancient art, in gold, platinum and silver, I wanted to show both the animal, and the idea of the animal...the shadow on the wall of Plato's cave. I am also fascinated by the way in which the beasts seem confined within their frame; a captivity to be sure, but a magnificent one." -Eve
