“Lunar Garden” Series Artist Statement

The moon (our long-ago companion)
shatters. Fragments
are recombined in the still waters
of the koi pond. Enormous fish
silently glide
sleepless in the chill air. You and me
are suspended: what of life?
Is this the twin universe
we are entitled to?
Are we left
quivering
in the night garden?
The wind rises, then dies.
As ancient laws are invoked, sleep returns,
and we finally dream of reeds
under the moon.
