“Ombre et Lumiere” Series Artist Statement

That morning, the tent arrived,
Gilt chairs, boards that turned into a dance floor
(but not for us, we were too little). It rained
but the party was still on, they said, and we could watch until bedtime

That night from our bedroom window
Faint music and shadows. They were all inside.
Rain clattered on the now limp white fabric,
and the lanterns glowed in rows on their soggy strings.
But the party was still on

What I remember from that night?
Shadow and light, and a magic world
where light endures
against night and rain
ombre et lumiere.
